About Victoria House
Victoria House, on Greaves Street, has had a colourful history, having been a snookerhall, council housing offices, and Cassons Commercial College before closing in 1999.
Since 2013 it has been the home of Oldham Boxing Club & Personal Development Centre (OBPDC). The club has used the building to deliver its pioneering work, combining sport and individual personal development to create a one-stop community hub providing services for all members of Oldham Community.
After winning the Queens award for voluntary service in 2021, in 2023 the club assumed the ownership of
the building, granted by Oldham MBC and with the support of the primary funders, Sport England, The Community Ownership Fund (Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government), Greater Manchester Police & The Architectural Heritage Fund as well as collaboration with Groundworks, it enabled a £1.2m refurbishment of the building. Now in 2025 we are ready to launch it as a space for both OBPDC to continue its work and for Greater
Manchester as a whole.
2026 will see the building become Greater Manchester Boxing & Development Hub, a resource for the region, hosting other sports, masterclasses & events as well as remaining a home for OBPDC to keep delivering its core remit.
What Victoria House does for Oldham.
Victoria House provides the following to the local Oldham community:
- A one stop community hub for the whole of the Oldham Community
- Community services for both adults and young people
- Fitness and health classes
- Office space for local businesses
